At last Monday's Mt. Vernon School Board meeting fellow Science teacher Lori Miller informed the board that she, too, regularly performed the same experiment with her class involving a Tesla Coil, had a Bible on her desk, and Christian symbols in her room and she had never once been asked by any superior to cease and desist.  In addition, Mrs. Miller said that even though she was on the "witness" list of the "investigation" conducted by an "independent" investigator, had worked along John Freshwater for years, no one ever interviewed her to find out if she might have evidence pertinent to the case.

The investigators' report says that Freshwater first made "an X on his own arm," and then several students asked to try it, too. Later, an investigator tried to duplicate the one child's injury by applying the device to his own arm, but was unable to do so: "[T]he device left a slight redness with no burns, and the redness disappeared overnight." The American Civil Liberties Union announced by far the largest fundraising campaign in its 88-year history Monday, eying a dramatic expansion of its work on social justice issues in relatively conservative states such as Texas and Florida.

The campaign's goal is $335 million, with $258 million already raised through behind-the-scenes solicitations over the past year, ACLU executive director Anthony Romero said.  Major donors include billionaire financier George Soros, who gave $12 million through his Open Society Institute.
